[Intro to Texts and Technology] Rarely does the scripting provide what I perceive to be morally ambiguous choices that dont have clear ramifications for a character or user. While there are exceptions, AI has yet to smoothly replicate the intricacy of choices and subtle behavior of real humans. Most games play out like e-literature in that dialogue choices drive the storyline down branching paths, rather than feeling like a “real” virtual world. This probably explains the popularity of MMORGs - less scripting and more humanity.

This sophistication widens the domain in which the AI can be competent, but the domain is still fairly narrow: it's still only competent at board games, for example.

[Crazy But Able] Expert systems have problems, deep problems, because they encode all of the knowledge in the system right up front! Its easy to seem intelligent when someone has given you all of your intelligence. What we need are computers that can see problems and reason, computers that can think.
