Kybernetica.com > If the Universe is a Simulation, then What?
[Minding the Planet] Ipropose that consciousness is an example of such a unsimulatable-thing.If we find that consciousness cannot be simulated by a computer, then Iwould conclude that our universe (which contains consciousness, seemingly) cannot be a computer simulation. It might still be asimulation however -- but not a simulation running on anythingequivalent to a Turing Machine.

[Novaspivack.typepad.com] Minding the Planet: Consciousness: In conclusion, I think our present civilization is at least several thousand yearsfrom really understanding much about consciousness and how it fits into physics, or vice-versa, but if we keep going theway we're going our civilization probably won't last that long. So tosave time, we could look more deeply into the cosmologies of earliercivilizations that were much more advanced when it comes toconsciousness than we are (for example the Buddhist cosmology asrepresented in the Kalachakra system for example, or the Mayancosmology, both of which are far more inclusive of consciousness intheir explanations of the universe.) I'm not suggesting that thosecosmologies are going to help us understand black holes -- for that ourmodern cosmology is probably better -- but they certainly could help usunderstand how consciousness fits in.
