[jeane b.'s blog.] The Fall / Winter line for Francesc is based on an androgynous image, one in which man and technology combine. So I expected more avant garde makeup and hair than I had seen in the majority of shows this season. Frankly, I was really ready for a little shake up aesthetically, as the majority of my experiences in the tents this season was definitely a more subdued one …..

[HASTAC] Queer & Feminist New Media Spaces | HASTAC: Being trained within Ethnic Studies, but also drawing from queer and feminist studies, I think of gender, sexuality, and gender are simultaneous social constructed formations, particularly in the "meanings" and consideration of the material ramifications of difference. Nakamura also draws from Omi and Winnant's Racial Formation Theory, in terming the implications of cyberspace as a "digital racial formation theory." The process, as you note are from the "collaboration of discursive, representational, performative, technological, and lived practices" around gender, sexuality and other axes of difference.
[we are poised mid-way between the atoms and the stars.] icicaille: favorite albums.: they could've continued along the Pablo Honey route of post-grunge Nirvana-esque Britpop, or developed the much more mature and complex sensibilities of OK Computer and the following albums that, quite frankly, rocked the popular music world. That they chose the latter is a direct result of this album's nascent maturity which does, I think, manifest itself in a few tracks like "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" and "Fake Plastic Trees." In any case, it's Radiohead's most easily accessible and explicitly enjoyable album.
[WNYC: Arts & Ideas] WNYC - The Brian Lehrer Show: Follow Up Friday: Tattoo Regret ...: I have two beautiful tattoos that I drew myself and see as a reflection of who I am now and who I will be, I have photo albums too. And there is a HUGE difference between artsy pieces as self-expression and a tweety bird tattoo you got on a drunk cruise on Spring Break, but frankly to each his own and I respect EVERYONE's right to tattoo or not to tattoo.
[No Ripcord - Independent Music & Film Magazine] Film Reviews | JFK - Oliver Stone | No Ripcord - Independent Music ...: I frankly think this is kind of a tragedy because its one of the most riveting, well made thrillers I have ever seen, but it is riddled with discredited claim after discredited claim. I recently finished Posner's excellent "Case Closed" and its remarkable to see how much of Stone's film is built on air.
[Orange City Watch] East Orange: City taking couple to court over front yard - Orange ...: As much as I like to live in a neighborhood that looks nice when you drive through it, I also understand that the couple might be going through financial difficulties and the fact is, I just don’t know what they’re going through…so I’d be happy with wood chips in their yard and keep my worrying to my yard.
[Inside Catholic] InsideCatholic.com - All Your Church Are Belong to Us: drive one hour on a Sunday afternoon, to an almost empty inner city church where its too hot in the summer and kinda cold in the winter, to hear a priest with his back to me recite in a dead foreign language a most holy and beautiful prayer (the confiteor) than to drive five minnutes from my home, stand with four hundred people in a new-suburban, perfectly air conditioned worship space, and have the priest speek in my language and NEVER EVER recite that prayer.
[Worldchanging: Bright Green] Worldchanging: Bright Green: Jellyfish House: Two specific additional points in response to Jeff's comments above: the proposal at the urban scale of the island is that in fact a large number of the Jellyfish Houses do (or would) float -- this can vaguely be seen in the aerial view, image no. 5 under "Jellyfish House" on IwamotoScott's website.
[gd reflections] gd reflections: Code opera: using Gource to watch a story of ...: Quite frankly, Gource provides only the most basic display. It does not tell too much about the code structure and how well different areas of work are factored between different contributors (even though quite often well-though folder structure is a sign of overall good code organization).
[Mark Kermode's film blog] BBC - Mark Kermode's film blog: Come in Number 3D, your time is up: The interview will focus primarily on questions of aesthetics in 3D rather than the economic and technological aspects, although your thoughts on these aspects would not be unwelcome! I feel your input would be incredibly valuable as my intention isn't to necessarily defend 3D (nor attack it, in fairness) and a wide variety of evidence will prove important.
[westerblog] Retouched Pretties « westerblog: Wouldn’t life be boring if everyone in the world had C-sized boobs or perfectly straight hair or blue eyes and were exactly the same height? Which is kind of what Pretties is all about, I guess…
[Up The Arts] Up The Arts » Blog Archive » A REFUTATION OF DENIS DUTTON, PART 3: Various thought experiments involving imaginary primitive tribes ensues and I nod off to sleep, although frankly I thought that was the entire point of Dada, and the average person hearing Schoenberg would think it a communication from Mars. Much ”I am cleverer than Arthur Danto ensues.

[Gameology 2.0] A Videogame Canon | Gameology 2.0: More importantly, the kinds of questions a game canon raises are useful pedagogical ones, and so this past semester I led a seminar with our mission to investigate them further. In what follows, I want to reflect on the seminar -- which I think was moderately successful -- and reveal our findings: a new list of games to add to the original ten.
[Blog Patrol] A Photo Editor - The Beginning Of The End?: I don’t necessarily see this level of artistry becoming common enough to replace the photographer’s camera. Certainly, well rendered 3D models have come a long way and are used commonly in marketing during the construction phase, but its still not the same as sending someone there to document it, as it is with its own natural light, if its actually built.
[Latest RSS Content for All Communities | Second Life] Second Life Blogs: Features: The New WindLight Viewer... PONDERING ...: Since the textures and shapes are not going to change (although sculpties did add in realism for shapes) I think the way we should look at windlight is simply: Will windlight make things look realistic, with the current shapes and textures we use (or could use) in second life.If an overdose of windlight makes textures and shapes look very unrealistic, the endgoal of realism will not reached.
