[Dig.csail.mit.edu] Daniel Weitzner, The Neutral Internet: An Information Architecture ...: The introduction of new services (such as the Web or instant messaging)has always been viewed by ISPs as a boon, because they increase the demandfor Internet access. It is true that these new services, if they becomepopular, have in some cases required ISPs to make various changes in the waythey manage their networks, but these network investments have always beenseen as worthwhile by network operators because of the new demand created forInternet service. Similarly, the introduction of new content (such as searchservices, maps, video sites, and blogs) has until now been viewed by ISPs asa boom, because like new applications they increase the demand for Internetaccess. Fundamentally, network operators opposed to neutrality no longer aresatisfied at benefiting from the increased demand for Internet access, seekto dramatically alter the business model that has been vital to theInternet's success.
[People.w3.org] Danny Weitzner - Open Internet Policy » Net Neutralilty: (The first commercial telegram was sent in 1851 after Samuel Morse sent the first telegram using Morse code in 1844.) [LawPundit :: Law : Information Technology : Intellectual Property : Current Events] Net Neutrality and Freedom on the Internet and... : The problem is that some broadband providers have started tiered pricing practices based on Internet content, pricing policies directly in conflict with the principles for which the Internet and the WWW were founded, since it puts ISPs in the position of being able to engage in content price discrimination - with all of the evils which attach to such a power. One might compare this in principle to the telephone company charging you differently if someone sings Happy Birthday to you on the telephone rather than simply talking to you, or tripling the price (or even cutting off the call) if you start to voice political opinions which the telephone company does not agree with.

[The Barber Shoppe Gazette - ENewsBlog] Google Censoring Conservatives?: What distinguishes Googles system from its competitors is that captured plaintext descriptions, links, and, where available, images, are then stored in Googles mammoth database, where they are indexed and ranked on an up-to-the-minute citation relevance scale by proprietary real-time artificial intelligence algorithms without any decisions from human editors. This method, in theory, provides everyone using Googles search engine with the best coverage for each story they seek out, while shielding Google from any potential claims of bias.
