Networks.silicon.com[Networks.silicon.com] Tech brain implant reads man's mind - silicon.com: The impulses, transmitted by 100 1mm long electrodes implanted in his brain, are converted into on-screen cursor movements that enable the 25-year-old to play computer games and open email. The on-screen cursor is directed by Nagle's brain activity - when he thinks of the cursor moving left, the BrainGate system recognises the pattern and moves the cursor accordingly.

[Singularitynews.blogspot.com] Singularity News: Milton Feng and Walid Hafez at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, developed the record-breaking transistor by carefully blending different semiconducting materials within individual layers of the microscopic device. Feng and Hafez developed a transistor less than half a millionth of a metre long, with a maximum operating speed of 604 GHz, meaning it can carry out 604 billion operations every second. "This establishes a new benchmark for transistor performance," says Doug Barlage at North Carolina State University, US. "It is probably three times faster than the fastest silicon-based device."

Popularmechanics.com[Popularmechanics.com] Popular Mechanics - Technology News - Tech Blog: Technology created by Cybernetics Neurotechnology Systems, headquartered in Foxborough, Mass., may someday allow quadriplegics to operate computers and other electronic devices with their thoughts. The BrainGate Neural Interface System creates a direct link between acomputer and the user's brain.  A surgeon implants a tiny chip(seen here) on the surface of the part of the brain involved in movingarms and hands. The system interprets and translates signals producedby the brain into cursor movements. So far, the BrainGate has beentested on one person, Boston-area quadriplegic Matt Nagle, who can movea cursor and play the simple video game Pong using the system.

Testing.com[Testing.com] Exploration Through Example: But there seems to be an emerging critique of the current stage in Agile that accuses it of being too passive. Tim Lister's keynote at Agile Development Conference charged the listeners to do more than passively accept requirements from users: instead we should exhibit (and develop) expertise in what users need. The new Agile-Usability list kicked off with some blasts at what can happen when a business expert who doesn't understand usability creates a UI feature by feature and the programmers passively do what she wants. Mary Poppendieck's keynote at XP/Agile Universe talked of the need to deliver a whole product to the business, and others appalled by how often successful-in-their-own-terms Agile projects get taken down by organizational struggles and interests are trying to figure out how to convert receiving organizations into something Agile enough to really use their Adaptive Bullpens well.
